Current Projects
The growth and development of Columbia’s premiere Arts and Entertainment District continues to wow even the Board of the Columbia Development Corporation. Residential and lodging lead the way in new development projects. The opening of the Publix Grocery Store in late 2004 resulted in announcements of over 50 million in new condominium residential development within 2 blocks of the store.
Hilton Convention Center Hotel
A new 300-room, full-service Hilton Convention Center Hotel, located directly across the street from the new Convention Center, is expected to be open in late 2006. The hotel will serve the new Midlands Convention Center as well as tourists from throughout the state, region, and country as the most upscale lodging in the city. Adding to the ambiance will be a new Ruth’s Chris Steak House just off the hotel lobby. Plans are underway for an adjacent 800-car parking garage that will serve the hotel, convention center, and area businesses.

Renaissance Plaza
Beautiful vies of the city will highlight the condominiums at Renaissance Plaza Apartments now under construction on Lady Street. The project will bring the cities first live/work residential units to the downtown market, with 17 small storefronts and professional offices facing Lady and Pulaski streets, and 55 condominiums with all the amenities anyone who loves the vibrancy of the Vista would want. Lots of private parking, a swimming pool, views of the SC State House and downtown, and close proximity to shopping, recreation, dining and nightlife.

The City Club

City Club a new residential townhouse project just across from the State Museum at 300 Gervais Street will be the Vista’s most exclusive residential project to date. The town homes, ranging from $300,000 to $700,000 are spacious and well appointed, close to the river with parks and amenities near, and of course in the center of Vista arts and activity. Canal Side
The Beach Company of Charleston, SC purchased the 25-acre site where the old Central Correctional Institute used to be with frontage on the Congaree River and Historic Columbia Canal. The initial masterplan will accommodate up to 750 total units consisting of single family attached, detached and multi-family residential options. CanalSide will additionally provide a limited amount of complimentary retail and commercial space. Integral to the project is a central park area and open space with direct adjacency to the City’s Esplanade and Riverwalk.
Infrastructure construction is slated to begin Spring 2006, with the first residential homesites anticipated to be available by late Fall. The Beach Company has plans to launch pre-sale efforts for the initial Property Release, consisting of a variety of residential products, in early 2006.

Canal Front
The new Canal Front Park, currently in the final architectural design phase, is scheduled to open in late 2006. Designed by LDR International/HNTB, the park will feature ample green space with direct access to EdVenture Children's Museum and the SC State Museum. A part of the City of Columbia Parks system and the Three Rivers Greenway, Canal Front features a pedestrian connector under the beautiful, historic Gervais Street Bridge, an open corridor to the Historic Canal Hydroelectric Plant, and green space for recreating and dining. The Plaza area will also accommodate vendor areas, a police substation, and public restroom facilities. The Columbia Canal may eventually be used for pleasure and tour boating, while the Congaree River will be the final destination for boaters, canoers and kayakers after they have enjoyed some of the best whitewater rafting in the eastern United States, just upstream from the Canal Front Park.
